Better than any kettle Reviews Zojirushi CV-DSC40 VE Hybrid Water Boiler and Warmer Stainless Steel

We wondered what made this Zojirushi CV-DSC40 VE Hybrid Water Boiler unit so expensive, until we got it and have been using it for almost a month. You truly DO "get what you pay for"! It uses VERY LITTLE energy. We hardly noticed any change in our electric bill even tho we have re-boiled (from refilling the unit) multiple times per week.
Review: Zojirushi CV-DSC40 VE Hybrid Water Boiler and Warmer
Zojirushi CV-DSC40 Vacuum Electric Stainless Steel 4L Hybrid. Water Boiler and Warmer
We've been using the Zojirushi CV-DSC40 boiler for a few months now, and quite like it. I use it to brew cone-dripper coffee in the mornings, one mug at a time; my spouse used it today to make instant soup, and we also use it to provide hot water for cooking and soaking dirty pots and dishes.

  • Water boiler and warmer with a large 4-liter capacity
  • Vacuum-insulated keep warm provides maximum energy efficiency
  • Temperature settings include 175, 195, and 208 degrees F
  • Temperature-control system; 6- to 8-hour timer; auto shut-off
  • Measures 8-3/8 by 11 by 13-13/16 inches
It's very well designed. I leave it on the vacuum setting, which means that it won't reboil water to keep it at a certain temperature unless I manually do so. What attracted me to this particular Zojirushi CV-DSC40 VE Hybrid Water Boiler and Warmer were several qualities:
  • Reasonably large capacity (4 liters)
  • easy to use, nice controls, nice view of remaining water amount
  • temperature controls on the water
  • hot water on demand
  • simple to refill and heats several days worth of hot water at once
  • water and container stay perfectly clean being sealed in with the push button dispenser
  • Energy saving timer (set anywhere from 6 to 10 hours, in 1 hour increments; the product description is inaccurate)
  • What they call 'hybrid' refers to the insulated tank, which means it uses only about 17 watts average to stay hot at the 195F setting
  • Water hot enough for coffee, tea, instant soup, and cooking, available nearly all the time
Downsides:
  • Yes, you do have to keep an eye on the water level, and I'm pretty sure it's safest to unplug and let the unit cool somewhat before adding more water.
Another thing we really, really like is the 4 liter capacity. Whenever we have company, that extra liter makes a huge difference! Our previous model had 3 liters, and it was amazing how often we had to figure out when we could add more water so as to not mess up the tea drinkers plans.

More than 223 people has been buy Zojirushi CV-DSC40 VE Hybrid Water Boiler and Warmer Stainless Steel and 92% are satisfied (as 12/17/2013).

I am sure my old Starbucks Espresso machine I bought back in 2004 will now last another decade because I am not using it as an electric tea kettle. I made a great choice buying the Zojirushi instead of an electric kettle.
